Making

Spooning

My work follows a journey towards healing captured through the making process. The journey began with extreme personal loss and has been a way to grieve and live in a world without loved ones.

Spoons - generous, intimate, sustaining objects - have become my form and my vehicle for expression. The materials used to make are varied but significant – lime tree wood, found objects, personal mementos, porcelain, silver.

The resulting objects follow the grain of grief, integrating the knots of the impossible days, exposing the layers of memory and acceptance and aiming towards a reflective balanced path forward. Working intuitively, they overcome the limits imposed by grief and physical obstacles creating precious reminders of the journey so far.
